What this section covers
Type II is residential and commercial HVAC/R that is not a small appliance and not a low-pressure chiller: splits, packaged rooftops, walk-ins, racks, and very-high-pressure industrial refrigerants (R-13, R-23, R-503).
The leak-repair program (40 CFR 82.157) applies at 50 lb or more:
| End use | Annual leak-rate threshold |
|---|---|
| Comfort cooling | 10% |
| Commercial refrigeration | 20% |
| Industrial process refrigeration | 30% |
Also memorize the post-1993 evacuation table (0 / 10 / 15 in. Hg by refrigerant and charge) and recover liquid before vapor. Compare types in the Type 1 vs Type 2 guide.
