What this section covers
The Core section is taken by everyone who sits any EPA 608 type. It is 25 questions; you need 18 correct (72%).
Topics that show up every sitting:
- Stratospheric ozone, chlorine, ODP vs GWP, CFCs / HCFCs / HFCs / HFOs
- Montreal Protocol and Clean Air Act Section 608
- Recover, recycle, reclaim (AHRI 700 before a change of ownership)
- Venting prohibition (July 1, 1992 for CFC/HCFC; November 15, 1995 for HFCs) and de minimis releases
- Sales restriction, fines, and losing your card
- Gray/yellow recovery cylinders, 80% fill, DOT labels, never refill disposables
- Nitrogen only for leak-test pressure — never oxygen or compressed air
- POE oil, moisture, evacuation/dehydration, P/T charts and non-condensables
Drill Core until you can recite the dates and the 80% cylinder rule without notes, then add a type.
