What this section covers

Type I is small appliances only: factory-manufactured, factory-charged, hermetically sealed, 5 lb or less. Household refrigerators, window units, dehumidifiers, water coolers and vending machines.

Not Type I: any field-charged split or rooftop, even under 5 lb. That is Type II.

Numbers to lock in:

  • Working compressor → recover 90% or 4 in. Hg
  • Dead compressor → recover 80% or 4 in. Hg
  • Passive recovery → 15 lb or less
  • Certified recovery equipment after November 15, 1993
